Beata Podwysocka is a minimalist photographer who has exhibited extensively in Poland and internationally in the United States, Italy, and Great Britain. Notable solo exhibitions in Olsztyn, Poland include Olsztyński Puppet Theatre, Marszałkowska Gallery, and Rynek Gallery. Collective shows in Poland include BWA Gallery in Olsztyn, BWA Gallery in Kielce, 12th International Biennial of Miniature Art in Częstochowa, Leon Wyczółkowski Municipal Museum in Bydgoszcz, and Centre of Contemporary Art in Toruń. Beata has been published multiple times in Black & White Magazine and she has won numerous honorable mentions from the prestigious International Photography Awards (IPA).

The photography typically focuses on landscapes and architecture from a highly selective and interpretative perspective. For example, Beata’s figurative work often entails figures far off within a carefully cropped scene with monochromatic tendencies such as an open public square or individuals trekking through the desert. In such a regard, these particular compositions are reminiscent of the filmmaking techniques of scenes containing open planes from the filmmaker David Lean in such masterpieces as Lawrence of Arabia. Beata will also capture portions of contemporary architecture and create montages which resemble sculptural installations or works of digital art. Her gift as an artist remains her ability to identify conceptual and selective locations to convey ideas and moods on dramatic design elements and eerie dramatic effects.

Like a filmmaker or theatre director, Beata’s photography invokes dramatic scenes such as a figure appearing out of the haze of the desert or the dunes of sand in perfect harmony basked in the aura of twilight creating a thorough scene of serenity and poetic inclinations. Her low contrast, high saturation representations create scenes which enhance the pale, monochromatic tendencies in her work which reveal a dynamic artist who creates masterful interpretations of mood in order to invoke imaginative and interpretative aspects of personal narrative.

Excerpts from Architecture # 2 (pictured above) reflects a dynamic perspective which has the viewer follow what appears to be portions of a contemporary skyscraper. Through focused linearity, Beata directs our eyes through multiple angles and solidifies contrast as well as unity through strategic capturing and placement of color through montage. She reassembles the image through different perspectives and directions to manipulate the surfaces to create a fascinating study on viewpoints, color, and linear design.

Beata Podwysocka takes us on a journey through her imaginative formatted scapes which reflect deep inclinations in reflecting on the purpose of contemporary design. Through both geometry and representational aspects, she incorporates both elements along with atmospheric harmony through monochromatic and dew-like capturing of form to convey a solemn mood and contemplation of our environment. Through carefully selected cropping, a brilliant selective eye, and compositions which reflect a film or theatre type production. Beata invokes a sense of dramatic effect into interpretations of how photography can reveal elements of poetic contemplation on compositional purpose and structural expression.
